Tuesday, Mar 01, 2022Ruthann Nelson is majoring in International Business from the College of Business and expects to graduate this Fall. Last August, she was named Director of Broward SAVI (Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement). "I wanted a way to be connected to the student population and serving with SAVI became the perfect outlet," she said. This led to Nelson joining the Davie Student Union Advisory Board. In this position, she says she is able to provide a better campus experience for students as we begin the move from online to back in person learning .
Her responsibilities as Broward SAV Director include facilitating student learning and involvement through a variety of volunteer programs, providing community service and leadership opportunities to all interested students across all three Broward campuses, managing and allocating funds in the annual fiscal budget for student events, and working in collaboration with various campus departments to assist in university-wide projects.
Nelson earned her AA in Business Administration from Broward College and is a Phi Theta Kappa Society member. She decided to seek a BBA in International Business because she hopes to work for an international corporation. "The professional knowledge gained from my program ensures that I am moving toward my goals. Not only that, but it also has allowed me to continue to develop strong interpersonal skills; which I practice more and more each day." Her favorite classes at FAU have been, International Negotiations and International HR Management. Nelson, who was born in St. Petersburg and now lives in Oakland Park, says her most memorable experience was the Fiesta de Barrio Sensacional for Hispanic Heritage Month, last semester. "I learned how to salsa, samba, and bachata," she said.
